What to expect at your session…

The intent of a Clear Sky Portrait session is to be fun and relaxed in order to capture you or your children at their finest, or at least at their truest! Some of my favorite photographs are those moments where you capture a goofy smile, a frown, or an outpouring of energy or emotion. To have a successful shoot, I have listed some recommendations for keeping the session relaxed and fun. These are particularly important for young children and babies.

Location, location, location. While beautiful destinations are fun and ideal for senior portraits or couple/engagement pictures, home is the often the best place for families with young children and babies. Children will be the most natural in a comfortable setting.

The day of your session, make sure that everyone is well fed and rested (try to schedule sessions around nap times when your child is “freshest”). Have snacks and light colored beverages available in case they need a break. Whether your session is at home or at another location, have fun, favorite toys available. These make the best props and keep children entertained and happy! Allow older children to have something that keeps them occupied and represents their hobbies (baseball and glove, musical instruments, etc).

Feel free to plan on outfit changes. If you want a more formal portrait, wear the dressy clothes first and then change into something more casual. Kids will especially appreciate this!

During sessions with children, I ask that parents step back and allow me to capture their child naturally. If your child is in a goofy smile phase, go with it. If all your baby wants to do is cry, relax! These moments don’t last forever and you will cherish the memory of these short-lived phases for years to come. If a parent is tense or anxious to produce a certain smile from their child, the child will struggle to relax and we’ll end up with the opposite of what we’re hoping for!

Ultimately, I want our time together to be memory-making in itself! If someone is having a bad hair day, your toddler has a milk-mustache, or your 8 year old won’t sit still, take a deep breath, relax, and laugh! Photography is about memories.

Two to three weeks following your session, your images will be available online for you to view. At this time, a CD of the images and printing rights can be ordered or prints can be ordered through the photographer. A copy of a slideshow can also be ordered. The CD or the prints will be delivered to your home within two weeks following the order.
